The past few days have been challenging --- first day, Seamus had a marathon, never-ending nursing sesh; second day, he wanted to eat every hour forever; and the third day, I woke up at 3 am with a 102.9 fever and a bad case of mastitis (blockage of the milk ducts) and what we think is a sinus infection. Overwhelming is an understatement.
All I could think is "I WANT MY MOMMY!" And so she will be making another appearance on Wednesday to help us out again for another few days. Phew.
I realized this morning that even though it has really been difficult the past few days, Seamus is really an easy baby. He doesn't cry all night for no reason, he's not sickly, he's cute as hell, he's a good eater, he let us sleep last night a lot, etc. All in all, we're very lucky that we got this particular little bundle of joy. The doula said that some baby's personalities change around two weeks, but I'm ignoring that! NO!!!!
Here's a picture of Seamus getting his first bath.

Dear Grets, I sigh for you -- I had mastitis with my first (still love ya, though, Auntie Teri!) No wonder you had that nasty infection, though, as much as Seamus has been nursing, sigh .... I hope it is easing now for you. The sinus infection on top of all that -- it just ain't fair! I'm so glad Nanabanana can come back down for a little TLC time with you and the baby (and Jimma, no doubt, would like some of that too....) So please rest as much as you can. What have the experts recommended for the mastitis?
Ditto again on Auntie Teri's sentiments - I too had mastitis and I too 'sigh for you' greeb. But, got word from your man that you are on the mend and wonderful to hear your mommy is coming to the rescue! I guess having a baby let's us know deep down how that red thread of child/mother connection lasts for a lifetime - that soul cord is never cut. So, I'm happy that you will have that comfort soon!! Sending you big hugs and kisses, Bizzer
Oh - it wasn't Teri who had the mastitis - it was grannyfranny talking about her experiences with Teri the baby! Oops. Even more 'red thread' activity! ;) Bizzer
Thanks, guys. It seems so common, you would think they would tell you not to avoid/favor one side when breastfeeding no matter how hard it might be on one side due to pain or whatever else (in my case pain and the difficulty for some reason Seamus has latching on that side).
I don't recall the breastfeeding instructor telling us this, but whatever.
I really appreciate the sighs and the sharing of everyone's experiences. It helps to know people have lived to tell the tales.
Seems like maybe one more day and all will be well. Right now, Jimma is cooking me dinner, Seamus is sleeping, and things are good. Stay warm!
I am not supposed to regale you all with tales of me (Auntie Teri) changing Jim's diapers...right, Jim? Forget I said anything!
hee hee from the annoying big sister
Dear Greeba, I can't tell you how much better I feel after reading your own entry here, to know that you are well enough to do blogging; I'll bet the thought that Mombo is on her way on Wednesday helps, too! You seem to have had very little time to just enjoy and relax with your darling baby; I do hope, hope, hope that the mastitis and the sinusitis are on their ugly way out the door now. (Aren't those moments blessed, when husband is cooking dinner, child is sleeping, and you are awake to enjoy it!)
Please, when you have time, clue me in on just what would work best for you three, when we are in NYC next Wednesday and Thursday; we don't want to be Too Much, and would like to set our plans to coincide with what you three need. We'll talk to you in the next days, and of course once we land in Manhattan on Tuesday night -- to see what's shakin' right at that moment.
Oh, I hope you are all sleeping right now, as I write this; it's 10:30 PM on Monday night here in S.B., middle of the night ("what's a night,?" I can hear you ask) -- sleep, my little elves, sleep.
