Mr. Science says ...

... did you know that baby orcas and dolphins don't sleep at all for their first month? So there's another reason to be grateful that we're primates ... let's see, our babies sleep a lot, we have language and the Rolling Stones, bagels and global warming ... so much to be proud of.

Ironically, "Shamu" is one of my nicknames for Seamus.

Yesterday afternoon and evening was another wakefulness marathon for our little orca ... it was only eight or nine hours though, not a month. And fortunately, the pattern is becoming clear: when he does that, he probably has a couple of longer sleep periods coming up ... just before we reach the end of our rope! The three of us got two good three-hour-plus sleep periods in overnight.

Jeez, I never thought I'd be so obsessed with sleep. I can calculate my sleep for any given twenty-four-hour period almost down to the minute.

In other news, Granny Frannie and Grand Poobah John will be taking advantage of their coveted grandparent visiting rights this week. Can't wait to introduce them to our little mammal!

I think a little Guest Blogging is in order, when Granny Franny & Grandpa John arrive, seeing as they don't have their very own Blog.

Glad your little Orca is sleeping a bit, or at least that you are seeing some patterns.

Just think, someday he'll be 15 like Stephanie and you'll be yelling at him at midnight to get off the phone and get some sleep, already! They don't change that much, really, they just get bigger...

Packing Day: and then we're headed Eastward to meet The Whale Baby (or is he a baby penguin?) Too much mammalia for me!

Nanabanana, you have done it again -- things seem much calmer, if still sleepless in SoHo.

I will do my best with pictures; with my little point-and-shoot, I can't match your great documentation over the past two weeks, but we'll see what I can get.

Can't wait to see my kids and the newbie!
