Marathon Man

As of this moment, Seamus has now been feeding, pretty much nonstop, for two and half hours. I suspect this may be some kind of record, but Greta is not celebrating.

This comes directly on the heels of another one-feeding-an-hour marathon, from 3am to 10am this morning. Fortunately, he went very easy on us yesterday, and we felt almost caught up on our sleep before he started his marathon -- so Greta's not as desperately tired as she would be otherwise. Still, it's not pleasant. "Seamus," she says, "it's a good thing you're so damn cute. I wouldn't do this for anyone else."

The good news is that, in about an hour, a friend of Bonu's is coming over: she's a massage therapist (and a doula herself) who specializes in postpartum massage. Greta really really needs this right now -- the timing is perfect.

We're hoping that Seamus is about to head into another cycle of 3-hour sleeps. I mean, he has to sleep sometime, right? Right??

Update: it's 3pm EST ... Greta is being massaged ... adorable baby is asleep on my chest ... kitty is sitting next to me on the couch ... life is good.

Greta still needs to get some sleep, though. I'm hoping that Seamus will now sleep for, say, 14 hours or so.

This is related to another post but just a hint about the laying on your side bfing-if you wedge a firm pillow behind your back it makes it a lot more comfortable.

Also-if he's been on your breast for 2 hours that means he stopped feeding at a certain point and is just suckling...

BTW-it's sandy, not andrew

Hi Sandy,

Thanks for the tips! How's Miss Sadie??

It does seem like he is still feeding, because:
- he's fully latched, sucking, and swallowing,
- when Greta takes him off, she's able to express milk, and
- during this marathon, when we've tried to take him off and put him to sleep, he stays awake and alert, and begins to root and suck on his fist.

One thing we'd really like to be able to figure out is how to use both breasts in the lying-down position -- the "upper" one is a bit too far away. We have to experiment with that some more ... we've worked around it by switching sides on the bed ... "lol".

Just say goodbye to sleeping for a few years. Like about 18.

Big love from London, Leenie xx
