Happy MLK Day ...

... to all of you. Sorry, Seamus, that you don't get to be born on King's birthday!

I love it that we have a holiday dedicated to a such a radical guy, whose words still have the power to challenge and shame us ... Seamus, may you grow up to see a world where King's ideas are taken more seriously than they are now.

I was hoping for yesterday too...just for that reason. But refresh my ever-lacking memory please...
What is JMS's bday?

Also was listening to Sweet Honey in The Rock yesterday... Lead song... "Ella's Song"
Auntie Terri, I know you're gonna be singing along with me here!

Begins with...
We who believe in Freedom,
cannot rest...
We who believe in Freedom
cannot rest until it comes.
Until the killing of black men...
black mother's sons...
is as important
as the killing of white men,
white mother's sons...
We who believe in Freedom,
cannot rest...
We who believe in Freedom
cannot rest until it comes.

then it goes on later to say...

To me, young people come first,
they have the courage where we fail.
And if I can but shed some light,
as they carry us through the gale...
We who believe in Freedom,
cannot rest...
We who believe in Freedom
cannot rest until it comes.

Seamus.. this describes your momma here...

I'm a woman who speaks in a voice...
and I must be heard...
at times...
I can be quite difficult,
I bow to no mans word!

"We who believe in Freedom,
cannot rest...
We who believe in Freedom
cannot rest until it comes.

bum bum bum... da dadada da... la la la :- )

Nanabanana, you are on some great wavelength with Sweet Honey -- are they Number One, or what?

Granny Franny, I think the Sweet Honey in the Rock roll began when I brought to the Connecticut baby showah a CD of mixed tunes for babies and parents. (It originally came to me from Stu and Keri, when their first son, Aris-rhymes-with-Paris, was born.) As I recall, Sandy put it on in the other room, where a cute slide show of Jim and Greta was running...

This splendid CD opens with an acapella (sp?) Sweet Honey in the Rock version of "Your children/are not your children/they are the sons and the daughters of life/longing for itself/They come through you/But not to you..." (Kahlil Gibran, yes?) Them ladies sure can sing; the song SPARKLES and fills you with excitement and joy.

C'mon, Seamus!!!

Love,
Auntie Teri
