Last night was our last RealBirth class, "Newborn Care". (See Greta comfort our Practice Child, right.) We had five three-hour classes on how to deal with childbirth, which lasts 48 hours at most ... and one three-hour class on how to take care of a child, which we'll be doing for the rest of our lives. Does that make any sense to you?
We didn't get a certificate or anything, but I feel like, with RealBirth's help, we've gone from "completely unprepared" all the way to "almost completely unprepared."
Last night's class stressed me out ... SIDS, meconium, hooded towels, super-sensitive skin, jaundice ... so much to deal with!
At the end of the class, the instructor told us that she'd been feeling the same way shortly before her first child was born. She called up her mother in a panic, telling her, "I am so not ready! I don't have anything!" Her mother responded, "Oh, listen, honey: all you need is tits and a blanket."

The advice about tits and a blanket is almost complete; however, you also need all the patience of a saint and all the loving help of a husband that you can get.
That's only if you have six kids. For one, you really only need tits and a blanket.
