Names

We don't know the sex of the baby yet (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for XXX!), but we've talked about names a lot -- that's always fun. However, we still have the problem of how to refer to the baby until we decide on a name: "the baby" seems too clinical, and using just "baby" is a habit that I despise ... "How is Baby today?" ... "Should we buy a crib for Baby?"

Personally, I like to call it Cletus (as in "Cletus the Fetus"). Unfortunately, Greta is hillbilly-phobic (a bad childhood experience with "The Beverly Hillbillies", perhaps?), and, for some ungodly reason, prefers "Mango".

I prefer Mango too!
So many wonderful connotations (much better than that stupid... what is that? Star Trek? ... vision!)
M a n g o .....
Beautiful and tasty fruit from some exotic land...
A wild child swinging from some mangrove with the apes. Do apes live near mangroves?
It does give me the image of some free spirit...
Perhaps that is why "mama bear" calls mango Mango?
Anymore pix of Mango from recent visits?
Love... NanaBanana-bear ;- )

Actually, nanabanana, it's "Mango" with a short "A" ... explained in this article ... which is why it's so very, very wrong.

Whereas Cletus is, of course, a Simpsons character. So apparently we envision our child as either a sexually ambiguous (yet irresistible) cabaret performer, or as a hillbilly who is married to his sister, Brandine.

Cletus (at the carwash): All right youngens, bath time. Cover up your eyes and drop your britches! Who wants wax?

Before we knew Steffi was going to be a girl we had the same problem, not wanting to keep saying "the baby" or "it", so we called her "Bo"; it had something to do with Bo Jackson -- I guess Bryan thought I was going to give birth to an African-American dual-sport athlete.
